Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect when I am a WATCH DOG?
When you arrive at school in the morning, you will be enthusiastically welcomed by Seattle Hill students and staff! The office will provide you with a daily schedule and specialized instructions, as well as a name tag (DOG Tag), and a WATCH DOG vest or t-shirt. Please pack a lunch or prepare to buy school lunch. Adult Lunch is $3.25. There is coffee and a soda machine available in the faculty lounge. Watch D.O.G.S. finish their day after student dismissal. Prior to their leaving, Watch D.O.G.S. complete a brief online survey (or do so from home).
How much time does it take to be a WATCH DOG?
One day! You can always sign up for more!
Why do I need to wear a WATCH DOG vest or t-shirt?
WATCH D.O.G.S. wear official vests and t-shirts for identification purposes. This apparel separates D.O.G.S. from other visitors who may be in the school, and to the children, staff, and other parents; it establishes you as an official overseeing the children. To purchase your own T-shirt or sweatshirt please visit THE DOG STORE.
Should I shut off my cell phone?
YES. Cell phones and electronic devices can cause a disruption in class as well as taking your attention away from students. Don’t worry you will have several opportunities to check your voice mail and messages throughout the day.
Do I spend the day with my child(ren)?
You will certainly have time to eat lunch with your child, chat with them at recess and perhaps volunteer in their classroom. However, you will be rotating to other classrooms as well, spreading your presence around the school!
What happens if I have to cancel due to illness, child illness, travel, etc.?
LIfe happens! If you are unable to be present on your scheduled date, please inform Stephanie Mueller at school, 360/563.4675 (office) and/or email Tom Stingily ASAP. We will reschedule!
What if I am unable to attend Pizza Night Kick-Off Orientation?
If you are unable to attend the WATCH D.O.G.S. “kick-off,” you may come by the office and pick up a WATCH D.O.G.S informational packet which explains the program and registration requirements at Seattle Hill. Upon completion and verification of forms, you will be ready to volunteer!
I’m already a Watch DOG, where is the calendar?
If your volunteer forms/registration are verified and you just need to check for an open date use the tab key-Sign Up and it will link you to Volunteer Spot. Enter the email address you used when you registered to check for the current sign up sheet.
